Vertical full-fill cavity barriers
VulcaLap® rainscreen full-fill barriers, independently fire tested combination of 2 barriers: NVFB (non-ventilated fire barrier, high density 110kg/m3) and NVFB-WB (low density LD, 45kg/m3). NVFB-WB is designed to maintain fire resistance performance without applying excessive pressure to distort the plank.
Cavities over 75mm, Tenmat NVFB provides a solid base, cut to suit the cavity depth (minus 25mm from the fixing edge of the plank). The 25mm gap allows for the NVFB-WB to be fitted to the outer edge with stainless pig-tails. NVFB-WB is supplied 50mm thick, compressed into the reverse of the VulcaLap®. Barrier depth dimensions and appropriate knife cuts are specified on VulcaLap® vertical and horizontal plank drawings.
Cavities below 75mm use NVFB-WB barrier up to 100mm deep. Use a knife to appropriately cut the soft barrier allowing it to ‘fan out’ into the voids in the plank recess.
Plank infill
The overlap of VulcaLap® planks inevitably has a ‘blind-spot’ requiring a small infill barrier. We have successfully passed the TGD19 test (30/15) with blind-spot components available from Vulcan. Details are specified on VulcaLap®vertical and horizontal plank drawings.
Horizontal ventilated cavity barriers
Tenmat’s VFB Plus Ventilated Fire Barriers are ’open state’ cavity fire barriers for ventilated cavities of up to 450mm. Each VFB Plus consists of a specially formulated fire rated stone mineral wool section with an integral high expansion intumescent seal fixed to the leading edge. Whilst the expansion is designed to be 44mm, when installed with VulcaLap® rainscreen, the VFB Plus barrier must be positioned at a reduced dimension making allowance for recesses. Barrier depth dimensions and appropriate knife cuts are specified on VulcaLap®vertical and horizontal plank drawings.
Horizontal – shallow ventilated cavity barriers
Tenmat’s FF102/50 Ventilated Fire Barriers is a shallow ’open state’ cavity fire barrier for ventilated cavities. The FF102/50 is identical high expansion intumescent as found on the front of the VFB Plus. This is also used to eliminate the blind-spot on the front of support rails in deep cavities.
