FAQ’s

What is Composite Cladding?

Composite cladding refers to an exterior cladding material made from a combination of two or more different materials. his type of cladding is popular in modern architecture due to its durability, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal.

What are the benefits?

  1. Durability: Composite cladding is highly durable and can withstand harsh weather conditions, making it an ideal choice for buildings located in areas with high levels of rainfall or extreme temperatures.
  2. Low maintenance: Unlike traditional cladding materials like wood, composite cladding requires very little maintenance. It does not need to be painted or stained, and it is resistant to rot, insects, and moisture.

What are the different types of Composite Cladding?

There are many different types of composite cladding available ranging from composite timber, fibre cement and aluminium and wood plastic composite (WPC). All offer a range of different benefits depending on the needs of each project.

How Do You Install Composite Cladding?

Composite cladding is a popular choice for those looking to enhance the aesthetic appeal of their home or business while also providing functional benefits. The ease of installation is a significant advantage, with composite timber systems being the easiest to install due to their dimensional stability and interlocking design. However, if you choose to work with natural timber cladding, it can be a bit more challenging due to its unpredictable nature and flaws. For materials like fibre cement, speciality cutting tools are required, which can make installation more complex. Whether you opt for composite, natural, or fibre cement cladding, it’s essential to use the appropriate tools and techniques for a successful installation.

Advantages over Real Timber Cladding

Real timber cladding systems have always been a popular choice for enhancing the visual appeal of a building’s exterior. However, the upkeep and maintenance required to keep it looking great can be overwhelming. The natural weathering of timber cladding tends to result in an uneven and unappealing facade, leaving many property owners feeling disappointed.

Very good range, used weathertone boards on our extension and looks perfect 5 years later. Only had 1 coat of pain on top of pre primed board. Builder impressed and used many times since. Good range of trims & accessories, the only sort I could find. Recommended!

We are so pleased to have chosen Vulcan Cladding Systems for the supply of their VulcaLap shiplap rainscreen, in mid-bronze anodised aluminium - which provides the longevity not achieved by timber, and successfully blends in so well with our home situated in a rural setting. We were helped by Stacey and Ray throughout this project, and found their care and professionalism exceptional. The company kept us informed of progress throughout, even down to the delivery which arrived almost to the minute! And so carefully packed! We really are thrilled, not just with the product, but also with the company and their staff who helped us in every way possible.

I can’t praise Vulcan highly enough for their help and support throughout our renovation project. We were searching for a cladding material to replace and modernise the cladding on our 1970’s renovation project but struggled to find anything that met our requirements until a search engine pointed us towards Vulcan. Our contact Alfie Wakelin understood our objectives, sent samples for our review not only from a colour perspective but also from a texture perspective and eventually we selected the cladding that really brought our house into the 21st century and tied all our alterations together. During the installation phase we had a couple of technical issues which were discussed and resolved within 24 hours. We are delighted with the finished product and would recommend Vulcan to anyone looking for a cladding system, Harry Harrison

After 16 years of direct sunlight, westerly winds and rain, the performance and appearance of our waney edged, larch cladding boards on the gable end of our oak framed barn had degraded significantly. Extensive distortion and cracking was allowing wind blown rain to pass through to the inner membrane. We considered replacing them with like for like wooden boards but found that boards of the required length were no longer available. We also wanted a solution that would survive longer than the larch boards and therefore, at the suggestion of a trusted local builder, we investigated the use of semi-synthetic cladding systems and, after much research, we opted for the Vulcan Cedarview Coastline lapboard. This cost effective, well engineered product with its reassuring warranties provides the required durability and longevity for our gable end cladding. The range of colours allowed us to make an almost perfect match and the lapboard finish was an ideal replacement for the larch boards. The installation instructions were very clear and our fitter took time to ensure that all the details were strictly adhered to. We are delighted with the overall appearance and performance of the Vulcan system and are very happy to recommend it.

I had a garden retaining wall built when I had my extension, my builder rendered it, after a few years the render started to fall off. I contacted Rod Cooper who advised me to clad the wall . The service i received from both Rod and Alfie was first class and my wall looks great.
